Lake Union Remodel

Lead designer with JAS Design-Build

Contractor: Joe Krofchek

Two bedrooms were renovated to create a sunny new kitchen and dining area, which has become the hub of house and family. French doors open onto a new deck and patio with views of Lake Union. Details are traditional and casual, in keeping with the style of the house and its occupants.

Wallingford Remodel

Lead Designer with JAS Design-Build

Interior Design: Anna Thomassen

Contractor: Charles Wright Construction

A full-house renovation plus dormer addition transformed a classic Wallingford bungalow. The cramped kitchen was expanded and opened to a renovated family room, which spills onto a new backyard porch. Upstairs, a new dormer houses the master bath and bedroom, which opens onto a deck over the porch below.

Greenlake Remodel

Contractor: Ambrose Construction

Complete interior and exterior remodel of a two bedroom 1912 house in poor repair. Since little besides the roof and floor could be saved, a pared-down bungalow aesthetic was adopted for the renovation. Details are traditional with a subtle twist, such as the reverse board and batten siding.

Greenlake Second Story

Contractor: Joseph McKinstry Construction

Second story and terraced garage additions transformed a small house on a tight lot into a family home. A master suite, kid’s bedroom and bath, and office were added upstairs. In the basement, a new garage and mudroom improved access and storage.

Wallingford Addition

Contractor: Homeowner

A craftsman addition designed for a future second story above. The new space expands and supports the existing kitchen, with a sunny breakfast nook, built-in desk and a bowling alley peninsula. The deck was reconfigured to provide better access to the backyard.

West Seattle Deck

Contractor: Ambrose Construction

A rooftop deck was created over the garage, to expand the second level living space, and capture the spectacular view. New siding, railing, windows and front door emphasize the strong, modern lines of the 1950's house. A bold, nautical paint scheme ties it all together.

Latona Kitchen

Contractor: Ambrose Construction

A dead-end galley kitchen was expanded and opened to the dining room. A new peninsula becomes a gathering place between the two rooms. The powder room was reconfigured to provide more privacy, and gain storage; and a desk and built-in bench were added to the mudroom. Traditional details were matched throughout.

Ravenna Addition

Contractor: Woodcrafters Construction

A dining room addition and kitchen renovation to a rustic house on a wooded Ravenna site. With its tall south-facing windows, and exposed fir structure, the new addition has its own sun porch-like character. From there, light is pulled into the expanded kitchen, which reflects the warm, casual character of the house and its owners.

Beacon Hill Kitchen

Contractor: Mercury Construction

A minimally invasive remodel of a classic 1920's kitchen and mudroom. An under utilized kitchen niche was appropriated for much-needed hallway storage. Bracketed shelves were used in place of uppers to maximize light and openness in the galley kitchen. Soapstone counters, subway tile and a Marmoleum floor reference the home's early 20th century roots.

Roosevelt Kitchen 1

Contractor: Mercury Construction

A breakfast nook was opened up to expand a small, craftsman kitchen. Additional cabinet space was carved out above the basement stair. A compact seating zone and drop-off cabinet allows multiple functions within the kitchen without sacrificing work space.

Roosevelt Kitchen 2

Contractor: Mercury Construction

The kitchen was opened up to the dining room and framed with built-in cabinets, paneled soffit and a peninsula. Circulation through the kitchen was re-routed to maximize cabinet space. 1980's era cabinets and trim were replaced with the craftsman style original to the house.

Capitol Hill Remodel

Contractor: Ambrose Construction

Full basement and master suite remodel to a Four Square Seattle home. Two upstairs bedrooms were combined to make a master bedroom with walk-in closet. An adjacent sun porch was converted into a spacious, light-filled master bath. The sun porch character was maintained with painted paneling and wrap around windows.

Capitol Hill Remodel 2

Contractor: Blue Sound Construction

Extensive interior remodel of a large, traditional home including: finishing basement; carving out master suite upstairs; new powder room and built-ins at entry; opening kitchen to dining room; and rework of front porch.
